When one of these words follows a word showing number or amount, it is not put in the plural and does not have of after it a/three/several hundred years (NOT three hundreds of years)| ten million people | a few dozen eggs | about fifty thousand miles Where there is no other word showing a number or amount, the plural is used He has hundreds of books (NOT He has hundred of books.) It will cost thousands of dollars (=I do not know how many thousand exactly). )
